Description
The title refers to the church of San Rocco, the oldest in Offanengo, built in the first half of the sixteenth century when the plague struck the town between 1527 and 1528. Although it does not have a very interesting exterior, the interior of the church contains several frescoes remarkable on a pictorial level.
The piece is structured in three distinct movements that show contrasting characters. An austere and celebratory atmosphere prevails in the first movement, which opens and closes with a solemn fanfare. The second movement presents simple and serene melodic textures, supported by a constant rhythmic pace. The brilliant dance of the third movement festively closes the composition.
