SUITE FOR DANCE
Description
This piece is divided into three movements: Allegro - Adagio - Allegro. The compositional structure of each movement relies on a dance. In other words, it is based on rhythmic patterns that are easily associated with dance rhythms. The first movement, Dance of the Witches (Danza delle Streghe), evokes a striking and mysterious dance, which portrays ghostlike witches performing a magic ritual. The second part, Dance of the Forest (Danza della Foresta), describes the movement of leaves, which magically wave at the mercy of the wind. They create a very slow and remarkable gait that seems to caress everything they brush against. The third and final movement, Balkan Dance (Danza Balcanica), depicts an unrestrained dance derived from the Eastern European folk tradition. Persistent rhythms underscore the typical sonority of ethnic groups whose musical culture captivatingly combines features of both Western European and Oriental art.
