Leo Capezzuto
Born in Agropoli (Salerno, Italy) in 1984, Leo Capezzuto lives in Castellabate (Salerno, Italy). He began studying music at age seven at the Music School of the “Associazione Concerto Bandistico S. Cecilia” of Castellabate (Salerno) of which, since 2007, he has been the artistic and musical director.
Currently, he teaches trumpet in secondary schools. He is mainly interested in music education and has started various initiatives in this field, including the School of Music of the City of Castellabate and the Youth Wind Orchestra of Cilento, of which he is also co-conductor. Through these organizations, he promotes every year numerous concerts, workshops, and cultural musical events, such as camps and master classes for young musicians led by renowned conductors and soloists. Moreover, he is the artistic director of the “International Competition of Transcription and Instrumentation for Wind Band - Ruggero Leoncavallo.”
He holds a trumpet performance degree earned in 2002 from the Conservatory of Music “G. Martucci” in Salerno. He has collaborated with various symphonic orchestras, chamber ensembles, and wind orchestras. Since 2001, he has performed with the Philharmonic Orchestra Salernitana and the Orchestra of the Opera Theater in Salerno, taking part in, among others, national and international tours with internationally renowned conductors, stage directors, singers, and soloists. Besides his performing activity as a soloist and with orchestras, he was also a member of the chamber group “Cilento Brass Quintet.”
He studied Choral Composition and Choral Conducting at the conservatories of Frosinone and Salerno and participated in various workshops and courses for conducting and wind band instrumentation. Moreover, he received associate degrees in Music, Science and Sound Technologies and in Music Education (trumpet). In 2019, he completed his degree in Conducting and Instrumentation for Wind Orchestra summa cum laude.
