Description
Reggio Calabria—“the most beautiful kilometer of Italy,” “the town of the Riace Bronzes,” a spit of land between two seas close to the Aspromonte Mountain and crossed by rivers flowing between aromas of bergamot and jasmine—has in its history faced earthquakes and many other adversities. Today, the city, thanks in part to the strength and the courage shown by some cultural associations, is ready to live a “New Spring” that will support and charm, with the scents of legality and culture, the hopes of every new day to come. The composition is divided into four contrasting movements: 1) INTRO SPECTACULAR: a sparkling opening, almost a signature theme. 2) ESPRESSIVO: in this movement, the author takes advantage of the tonal and timbral resources of the orchestra and creates a mild and calm atmosphere. 3) IRREGULAR DANCE: as the title says, this is a short dance characterized by the use of irregular meters. 4) FANFARE and ALLEGRO: the work closes with a festive movement, which, after a pompous fanfare, explores sometimes delicate and other times more rhetorical musical ideas through an orchestration that alternates between chamber ensemble and full orchestra moments.
