Massimo Sgargi

Born in 1953, he obtained diplomas in Composition, Choral Conducting and Electronic Music, as well as a degree in Arts and Musicology (DAMS). He later specialized in Composition and Instrumentation for Wind Orchestra at the Conservatory of Udine with Marco Somadossi, graduating with highest honors.
From 1985 to 2020 he taught Score Reading at the Conservatory of Modena, also teaching Computer Music Production, Jazz Composition and Improvisation. After an intense career as a jazz pianist, composer, arranger and big band conductor, in recent years he has dedicated himself mainly to the wind band world, both as composer and conductor.
He has won numerous composition competitions, among them: “Haragei” (1st Prize, Castellabate 2025), “Canto della terra” (3rd Prize, Corciano 2025), “Bird” (2nd Prize, Allumiere 2025), and his instrumentation of Vivaldi’s “Spring” (1st Prize, Monteleone d’Orvieto 2023).
His works are published by Scomegna and Baton Music. Since 2021 he has been the conductor of the Casalecchio di Reno Municipal Band (Bologna).
