Description
- Dreamers can get lost, but they never lose (Ettore Zanca).
- A dreamer is one who can only find his way in the moonlight, and his punishment is that he sees the sunrise before the rest of the world (Oscar Wilde).
- A winner is a dreamer who never gave up (attributed to Nelson Mandela).
- You can say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one (John Lennon)

The idea that all those who have done great deeds and made our world better have been great dreamers is the source of inspiration for this piece.

The idiomatic and building characteristic of the composition are very marked rhythmic elements with the use of irregular meters and polyrhythms, juxtaposed in contrast to very melodic and expressive parts.

The first theme of Dreamers is a soft rhythmic pattern, almost a Latin jazz rhythm, which is superimposed to a more relaxed melodic idea harmonized in triads. The following second theme has a choral character, introduced mainly by the brass instruments. Immediately after its presentation, these various elements are developed and overlapped through the alternation of 4/4 and 7/8 meters.

The second part is characterized by a very melodic and romantic expressive adagio, which flows into an almost playful interlude in triple meter. Subsequently, the polyrhythmic elements and the irregular time signatures (7/8 and 5/8), progressively superimposed on the main meter, become more and more predominant. A short pause allows the trombones to quote the phrase “You can say I’m a dreamer” from John Lennon’s “Imagine,” but then the rhythmic machine takes over and the piece ends with a grandiose superimposition of all the rhythmic, metrical, and thematic elements of the piece until the final coda.
