It is a traditional American Christmas song composed in 1949 by Robert Alex Anderson. The song, which speaks of a Christmas in the Hawaiian Islands, takes its title from the approximate Hawaiian pronunciation of the greeting "Merry Christmas." One of the first performances of the piece was by Bing Crosby.
