THE SLEEPING BEAUTY
This waltz is taken from Sleeping Beauty, Tchaikovsky's longest ballet. It seems that at the first (which took place in St. Petersburg in 1890) Tsar Alexander III summoned Tchaikovsky to the imperial box. The Tsar made the simple remark "Beautiful", which seems to have irritated the composer who probably expected a more favorable response.
