YOUNG SUITE
Description
The title
The composition was commissioned as an obligatory piece for competitors in the "Young band" category at the third edition of the festival-contest for bands held in Bellante (TE). The suite is divided into three movements: Allegretto, Andantino and Solenne alla Marcia, and evokes some of the themes (only the first semi-phrase) from Primo Riccitelli's opera, "I Campagnacci" (Published by Sonzogno, Milan). The festival-contest is dedicated to this composer, who came from Bellante. The rhythm and harmony of these themes are presented in a completely new form so that the music is more suitable for young groups/bands. In detail 1st Movement: the theme Al bel sole di Firenze, from measure 37 to measure 40, played by the clarinets; 2nd Movement: Son dolcissima rugiada, from measure 64 to measure 67, played by the basses; 3rd Movement: Quant'è bella giovinezza, from measure 112 to measure 113, played by flute, oboe, clarinets and trumpets. At the same time, the tenor sax and euphonium play the theme from the first movement, Al bel sole di Firenze, as a counter melody. All the other themes in the suite are original and are presented and repeated in a number of different situations.
