Beschreibung
The title
Tchaikovsky composed this ballet between 1875 and 1876. Its premiere, in 1877 at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, was a flop. New productions were staged in Moscow, in 1880 and 1882, but these were no more successful. In 1895, shortly after Tchaikovsky's death, a revised version of the ballet was performed, this time in St. Petersburg. The scenery and choreography had undergone substantial changes, and the production was a huge success. Today "Swan Lake", "Sleeping Beauty" and "The Nutcracker Suite" are the most revered masterpieces in the history of ballet.
