Angelo Sormani
Angelo Sormani (1965 - 2022), graduated in trumpet, in electronic music composition, in experimental composition, in choral singing and choral conducting and in band instrumentation at the "Giuseppe Verdi" Conservatory in Milan where he subsequently obtained a full marks the II level degree in conducting, composition and instrumentation for band. He attended specialization courses in analysis, composition and band instrumentation at the Istituto Superiore Bandistico Europeo of Trento. In parallel with his musical studies, he graduated in "Computer Science" at the University of Milan. His experiences range from classical music to jazz music, to Computer Music. He was professor of Technology and Physics Laboratory at secondary schools and of Theory and Solfeggio and Harmony at the Music School of the Civica Filarmonica of Lugano and teacher of Conducting and Instrumentation for Band at the European Academy of Music of Erba . He directed the musical band “A. Manzoni” of Lecco, the musical band “Città di Mariano Comense” and “Santa Cecilia” of Costa Masnaga. He was the founder and artistic director of the Insubria Wind Orchestra. He has collaborated as conductor and composer with the "Festival dei Complessi Bandistici Umbri", with the Anbima, and with the Wind Orchestra of the Conservatory "G. Verdi” in Milan, with the Lugano Junior Band. He has collaborated as transcriber, conductor and composer with "I Corni della Scala" in Milan with whom he has given concerts in prestigious Italian theaters and festivals (including the Teatro Regio in Parma, the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Festival "The sounds of Dolomites"). He has obtained significant awards in national and international composition competitions: “L. Russolo”; “City of Pavia”; “V. Bucchi” in Rome; Corciano (awarded in three editions); “Pietro Pernice” (awarded in two editions); “Pellegrino Caso”, “La prime Lus” by Bertiolo, Anbima of Udine, “Romualdo Marenco” (awarded in two editions), city of Sinnai, city of Mugnano; His compositions are selected as pieces imposed in band competitions. His pieces are recorded by important Italian wind orchestras.
