BALLAD AND SALSA
For solo Horn or Alto - Tenor Sax and concert band
Description
"Ballad and Salsa" by Donato Semeraro is a composition structured in two movements, born from the deep friendship between the composer and the horn player Nilo Caracristi, to whom it was dedicated on the occasion of his 50th birthday.
The piece is presented in two versions: Horn (or Alto/Tenor Saxophone) and Piano, and Horn (Alto or Tenor Saxophone) and Concert Band.
The Ballad is a slow, melodic piece characterized by sweet, touching, and evocative sounds. The seemingly melancholic atmosphere reaches vigorous moments at certain points in the composition, without ever losing its romantic character.
The Salsa develops around a rhythmic ostinato assigned to the reeds, while the brass timbre and percussion rhythm give the piece the sound of South American ensembles. The soloist, contrasting with the accompaniment, phrases while maintaining the 'warmth' and 'color' typical of Caribbean dances.
